Need to know more about BT MyPlace?

Westminster City Council and BT, with a host of content and service partners, are bringing you this collection of services designed with your on-the-go life in mind. You can use a laptop, a PDA or a mobile phone to access the services.

Simple to use, you tell us about the things you like through the Personalise link, the type of restaurants, the sort of films you like to see, the type of shops and then, when the time is right, BT MyPlace will actively recommend things for you, based on what you like and where you are.

BT MyPlace will recommend restaurants that are close to you and those with the cuisine you prefer. It will help you discover the attractions, clubs, pubs and bars that suit you. The shopping recommender will guide you to a shop to buy the perfect item for your special occasion or gift. You can easily download walking tours of the city, or listen to commentaries on key points of interest. There are links to Westminster City information... transport details to get about... theatre previews and tickets. For movie buffs, there are weekly reviews of new releases and movie listings personalised to the types of movies you like. Video conversations with different Londoners will give you new ideas for places to go and see.

  1. 1 - What is BT MyPlace?

    BT MyPlace is your access point to the city of London - it can help you find what you want, and suggest new places you'll like - with all the insider knowledge of a real Londoner. It makes intelligent searches based on your location and preferences, to find just what you're looking for, close to where you are.

    BT MyPlace can map your location if you've entered via BT Openzone in Westminster, so it already knows which area to search. You can ask it to search in a different location by simply double-clicking on a map. Save all your favourites with Spacemark (4) - the bookmark for places - so you can always find them on the map or send them quickly to your mobile or to friends.

  2. 2 - What kind of things can BT MyPlace find?

    Tell BT MyPlace what you like - through the Personalise link - and it will start searching London just for you. It will recommend restaurants serving your favourite cuisines, shops selling just what you need, and the kind of events you really enjoy.   3. 3 - Do I use my PC or mobile?

    You can use whichever suits you best at the time. Just use whichever internet enabled device suits your needs best at the time.

  4. 4 - What is Spacemark?

    Spacemark is like a bookmark - but it marks your favourite places. And it captures each item (such as a shop or museum) with a description and a point on the map. Which means you can quickly find these favourite places - first when you're looking for ideas from your list, and then for directions when you're out and about.

    Spacemark is great for suggesting new meeting places to friends - just click on its 'share' link to forward all the details and directions straight to their mobiles or laptops as a text or an email.

    To add (or remove) a spacemark, simply click the spacemark button on the page giving details of the place you are interested in. This button looks like this: SpaceMark

    To look at all your spacemarks, enabling you to do things like share a link with a friend, simply go to the Spacemark link on the bottom of each page on the mobile portal, or the rectangular Spacemark button on each page of the web portal.

  5. 5 - What is the My downloads link for?

    You can buy audio tours through BT MyPlace - and these are collected in your downloads area which can be access from the My downloads link on every page.

  6. 6 - How do I access BT MyPlace?

    You can access the site via a fixed internet connection, a wireless (WiFi) connection, or your mobile network.

  7. 7 - Why do I need to register for BT MyPlace?

    Because the site will work hardest for you once it knows what you like - and you'll need a unique sign-in for it to recognise you. You can use the site without personalising it, but you won't benefit from its time-saving, intelligent searches. Your registration information is secure, and we follow a strict privacy policy to protect your details.     Once you've created a user account for BT MyPlace, use it on any of your devices, whenever you login.

  8. 8 - How do I register?

    If you connected directly to BT MyPlace via the web and you're a first-time visitor, you can register by clicking on the Login button. You don't need to register as soon as you enter BT MyPlace, but once you've registered and told us what kind of things such as places, restaurants, and shops you like, we can make some really time-saving, tailored suggestions.

  9. 9 - How do I set up a password?

    BT MyPlace will ask you to set a password. Set a password that is easy to remember. Your password needs to be between 4 and 12 characters. Once you've set your password you can use it on your pc or mobile whenever you want to use BT MyPlace.

  10. 10 - How do I sign in?

    You can sign in at any time, on your PC or mobile, by clicking on the Login link. You'll need to be signed in if you want to make purchases or readjust your personal settings.

  11. 11 - Why should I give you personalised information?

    You decide on what personalised information you'd like to give us - the more you tell us about your preferences, the better we can match you up with events, places, and shops you'll like. We follow a strict privacy policy to protect your details. Click on the Privacy policy link (located at the bottom of every page) to read about this in detail.

  12. 12 - How do I personalise BT MyPlace?

    Personalising BT MyPlace is easy. Once you've signed in, just click on the Personalise link and click on all the things you like. Then click the Save button. You can change your preferences at any time - either because you want try new things, or find ideas for a friend - by clicking on the Personalise link.

  13. 13 - What do I do to see more items than the ones I've personalised?

    If you want more suggestions or choices, you can change or widen your personalised choices in Personalise. You can also select more choices from the dropdown listings where they appear. And you can change your location on the map and find different suggestions for different areas in London.

  14. 14 - Who created BT MyPlace?

    Westminster City Council and BT are working with London's content and service providers to create the ultimate guide to London on-the-go. It's cross-platform, intelligent information - that a user can access whenever they want.
